Our Story

Home and family.

Alec and Lilian were born during the great depression. Alec, the youngest of ten siblings, was raised in impoverished circumstances in Sydney. At 16, he left home living and working in towns across rural NSW. It was in the township of Quandialla, while working at the telephone exchange, that he met Lilian his future bride.

Together, they built their house on Dunlop Street. Over the next 70 years the house became a home for generations of family and friends. It was a place of stability and support, known for good friendship, joy and the much-treasured garden.

Alec and Lilian were active in their community as members of their local church, bowls club and neighbourhood network. They energetically supported charitable work including a home for vulnerable children in the local area. They invested readily in their large extended family caring for many of them as they entered the difficult ageing years. Their lives reflected simplicity, stability, hard work and the financial diligence of their generation. It was always wrapped in the warmth and generous love of a family home.

ABOUT US

Generous Living

Dunlop Street Charitable Fund was established by the family of Alec and Lilian to strengthen family bonds and to continue the tradition of generous living. We learn and experience so much from our families including our need to re-invest into our community and support those who need a helping hand.

WHAT WE DO

Strengthening families, promoting wellbeing in rural communities and supporting international community development with a preference towards organisations that operate within a Christian worldview.
